Hand painted landscape with while wolf necklace by Fernworks in Asheville, NC

Fernworks

Faryn Davis creates tiny, intricate worlds suspended in resin. Working from a small hut in her backyard studio in Asheville, North Carolina, she blends hand-painted imagery with real, ethically sourced ephemera—such as grass, lichen, feathers, and bones—to build layered, dreamlike 3D landscapes. Each piece is meticulously painted using toothpicks and fine brushes, then embedded in epoxy and polished into delicate scenes populated by woodland creatures, magical symbols, and the quiet mysteries of nature.

Faryn has been working with resin for over 20 years and creates art full time. Her work is deeply influenced by a lifelong love of collecting natural specimens and unusual objects—a passion rooted in her childhood on a farm in western North Carolina. She draws inspiration from a wide range of fascinations, including ornithology, botany, geology, astrology, miniatures, relics, maps, weather, and dreams.

She studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts, as well as in France, Italy, and Nepal, and received her BFA in sculpture from the University of North Carolina at Asheville in 2000.

Faryn’s work can be found in galleries and shops throughout the United States and internationally, as well as at juried craft shows across the country. After an eight-year stay in the Pacific Northwest, she returned to Asheville with her husband, Eli, and their son, Milo Gray.
