Maruca Design
Maruca was founded in 1994 by Rex Maruca, who originally sold fabric for the upholstery industry. Inspired to take the company in a new direction, he began producing handbags—and the idea took off. With the help of a designer, a fabric cutter, and a team of local independent seamstresses working from their homes, Maruca started crafting an array of bag styles in a variety of vibrant patterns and colors. Over time, the brand built a loyal following and became known for its high-quality, artsy, and distinctly unique bags.
At Maruca, we exclusively use Jacquard fabrics—textiles woven on special looms that allow for intricate patterns and rich textures. We proudly partner with small, independent U.S. fabric mills, using a blend of cotton, rayon, synthetics, and even threads made from recycled plastic bottles. Each fabric we choose reflects our commitment to both beauty and sustainability.
In 2020, Maruca became a women-owned and woman-run business. Our small design studio, located just outside Denver, Colorado, continues to be the heart of our operations. Every bag is hand-cut, hand-sewn, and thoughtfully made—never mass-produced.
As a USA-based small business, we are driven by creativity, sustainability, and resourcefulness. We remain dedicated to crafting beautiful, long-lasting bags that blend function with artistry—made to be loved and carried for years to come.
