Robin Kirby
Robin Kirby’s pottery is a reflection of her deep love for nature and an appreciation of the ingenious creativity of the cultures that have come before us. Inspired by the process of making itself, each new collection builds upon the work that preceded it, evolving naturally over time.
Born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Robin studied clay at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Haywood Community College’s Professional Crafts Program before settling in Saluda, where she has worked in her home studio since 2005. She has been a proud member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild since 2010, and her work is known for its balance of function and artistry.
Crafted from locally sourced stoneware clay from the mountains of North Carolina, Robin’s pottery is entirely handmade, with original designs that are hand-carved and painted on each piece. No two are alike, yet all share a sense of belonging together. Functionality is at the heart of her work—every detail, from the curve of a mug’s lip to the balance of its handle, is carefully considered to enhance daily rituals while maintaining her artistic vision.
In addition to her studio practice, Robin has a passion for teaching and has been sharing her expertise with students through Blue Ridge Community College’s Continuing Education Department since 2012.
Robin’s pottery is microwave, dishwasher, and oven safe. As with all handmade bakeware, pieces should be placed in a cold oven and then brought to temperature to prevent thermal shock.
