Coon Dog Day is a beloved summer tradition in Saluda, bringing the community together for a full day of small-town celebration and Southern charm. The festivities begin with a spirited 5K Fun Run, followed by a bustling vendor market and a lively parade filled with colorful floats, firetrucks, and plenty of dogs. Dog lovers can enjoy the “Every Dog’s a Star” show, a lighthearted contest celebrating pups of every breed, along with the AKC Registered Coon Hound Dog Show featuring impressive championship hounds. Throughout the day, visitors can also watch a firefighter agility competition, enjoy live music and dancing, and end the evening with traditional square dancing under the stars. Combining family-friendly fun, community pride, and Appalachian tradition, Coon Dog Day remains one of western North Carolina’s most cherished summer events.
